Lot closed to dogs
The lot is to remain closed to dogs until at least next spring. This is a decision made by senior staff of the Park District. The lot will remain locked except for scheduled football & yoga practice. The lot can be unlocked for dog owners, but dogs must remain on a leash (& all poop must be cleaned up, obviously). The instruction from the Park District is for park staff to call police if they see dogs off-leash inside the lot.
Please respect the decision of the Park District. Do not cut the locks or jump the fence. We are trying to stay in good graces so we can get an official DFA inside Schreiber Park. We do not want to be accused of causing damage to the grass. We also do not wish for anyone to be ticketed.
The DFA Committee continues to work to secure an official space for dogs in Schreiber Park. Until then, you can find many of us at other locations. Please be respectful of any dog-owning community you decide to join while we work to secure an official DFA in Schreiber Park. As always, please pick up after your dog(s) regardless of where you are and be respectful of the space that you use.
If you would like to sign our DFA petition, please keep checking this page. We will post dates for when and where we'll convene so everyone gets a chance to sign. I think we are also going to try to post notes from our DFA committee meetings for anyone who is interested, if that is something a lot of you want. We will also continue to share dog news and care tips through this page, because you can never be too informed. And we will continue to post local dog-related events as well.
We may also plan "positive loitering" events near or inside the lot (*leashed* dogs welcome). These may include mini-parties or doggie costume contests. If this is something you may be interested in, please let us know - we don't want to plan an event if no one wants to show up.
Hopefully I will see many of you soon! And don't lose hope - we won't give up! We have to keep trying to show the city that our presence cuts down on the crime on the corner of Bosworth & Schreiber, and that we are responsible dog owners. If you see anyone with a dog in the lot, please feel free to share this information with them and direct them to this page. Thank you for your patience and concern.
