Still not sure how to help out?
- Make toys or beds for your local shelter.
- Clip pet-related coupons from your newspaper to donate to shelters.
- Consider teaching your child more good-citizenship skills by having him or her collect donations for shelters instead of birthday or Christmas gifts this year.
- Participate in run/walk events such as Bark in the Park for The Anti-Cruelty Society or Run for Their Lives for PAWS Chicago.
- Hold a dog walk-a-thon, car wash or dog wash in your neighborhood for charity.
- Sell dog treats, baked goods, lemonade or hot cocoa in your neighborhood for charity.
- Ask that guests to your wedding donate to a specified rescue or charity instead of bringing gifts. Or ask that mourners to your or a family member's funeral donate to a charity instead of sending flowers.
- Organize a donation drive. Shelters need items such as toys, beds, newspapers, towels and blankets, and shoe boxes for kitties.
- Cross-post dogs in shelters on Facebook.
